Lynn Carter
Sculptor

Santa Barbara, CA

I find sculpting from a model a very fascinating experience. Each model and pose offers a unique opportunity to explore the mystery of a human soul. Discovering how to translate each mystery into the beauty of the bodily form is figurative sculpture.

The magical journey begins with the raw elements of Earth. Using simple wooden tools, the clay transforms into the embodied soul. Once fired, the sculpture is transfixed into stone. I then apply a patina or raku-smoked finish.

Lynn Carter is a California artist who has studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, Fort Mason and S.F. City College. She was a member of the San Francisco Women's Art Gallery and has been a member of the San Francisco Sculptors Cooperative for the past five years.
