Joan
M is a native New Yorker with "itchy feet". Those feet have
taken her to live and travel throughout the United Sates and Europe. She
has lived in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Texas and currently resides in California.
Her images have received several awards, grants and scholarships and are
included in many private collections internationally.
When the undeniable
urge to "change her point of view" strikes, she grabs her camera
and sets out to see what the world has to offer letting serendipity direct
her eye. For Joan a new place is an opportunity to observe and experience
something rare. A sense of reflection in images that are "unique
but somehow familiar" is what she strives to convey. A broken chair
discarded on a New York curbside is very different from one left forgotten
on an abandoned porch in a western ghost town yet somehow the same. The
same sun rises over the Arizona desert as through the morning fog in San
Francisco but somehow it's different. A young child with black hair and
dark eyes playing with her kitten in Greece is as beautiful as her blonde
counterpart half a world away. Although her work shows a range of interest
from abstract to dream like softness to startling reality the theme throughout
is one of wonder at the endless variety of the world.
Joan is delighted to share her
visions and she hopes these images will bring a smile to the heart and
eyes of her viewers.
